Foundational Training

This 2-1/2 day ArtsNow Foundational Training is designed for School Teams consisting of an arts specialist (visual arts, music, dance, PE/movement), a classroom teacher, and an administrator. The team approach is required as the integration of creativity and the arts into the curriculum is most effective when there is a collaborative effort among the school staff. By attending in school teams, participants have the opportunity to:

  • collectively learn new ideas,
  • discover the power of their own creativity,
  • participate in arts-integrated activities,
  • collaboratively plan instruction, and
  • begin writing a school action plan that implements the ArtsNow strategies.
The 3-person team must include an arts specialist, a classroom teacher, and an administrator (minimum). Additional school personnel are invited to join the team at a reduced rate. Teachers MUST attend the entire 2-1/2 days. The administrator's seat may be rotated throughout the workshop by the principal, assistant principal, and other administrative personnel.

Foundational Training Includes:

  • Exposure to arts integration as a research-based teaching strategy
  • Importance of the arts in education and arts education
  • Engagement in creativity focused hands-on learning
  • Understanding of leadership capacity (individually and collectively)
  • Understanding of levels of curriculum integration
  • Group planning to create and share activity plans linking arts and non-arts subjects
  • Overview of strategies for developing an arts-rich school
  • Group planning to create and share school implementation plans
