Moving to Read

Two teachers from a DeKalb County Elementary School attended the Creating Pride workshop iin 2003. They then took what they learned back into their school, delivering the same workshop to their peers. In doing so, they helped the faculty understand how to teach reading and vocabulary standards more effectively by using movement and dance!

The school’s media specialist and art teacher are shown here conducting a "movement workshop" with their faculty.

They are training their peers to teach language arts skills, such as vocabulary, letter recognition, and parts of speech, through dance activities they learned at the Creating Pride workshop.

The teachers are enjoying the opportunity to connect with one another and share best practices, while being taught through firsthand experience by their peers, their school community Arts Leaders.

Teachers experience first hand that when children are provided the opportunity to learn through engaging work, they will begin to master necessary skills to help them succeed academically, artistically and socially.
